One of the best tips we can offer you for removal is finding a good position to remove your disc in (maybe that's sitting down over the toilet with your legs on a stool, or maybe that's in a full squat in the shower).
Once you find a good position, here are the "best of" tips to help with the removal process.
1. Relax.
One of the key components to removing any period product is relaxation - if you tense up, you'll likely experience an issue. Just take a deep breath and allow your body to relax. This tip truly works any time there's an issue.
So before you remove FLEX, take a few deep breaths, say some positive mantras (you can also say: "I will get this out of my body"), drink tea - whatever you do to relax. If after a few tries you don't succeed, feel free to stop and try again 10-30 minutes later.
2. "Push" down.
The sensation will sort of be like that of pooping (don't worry - you won't actually poop). This will help pop FLEX out from behind the pubic bone. You can push down a couple of times (push down, pause, push down, pause, repeat).
Pelvic floor therapists will also recommend the "moo" technique. Basically, you just say "moo". We know it sounds silly, but it helps you use the diaphragm to push down and relax.
Our medical advisor Dr. Jane also recommends using the Valsalva maneuver. The Valsalva maneuver is when you take a deep breath, big as you can, and then push down like you're having a bowel movement. Doing a Valsalva brings your cervix closer to the opening of the vagina. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valsalva_maneuver
3. Hook the disc
There are a couple ways you can hook the disc. For many people, the easiest way to hook the disc is from under black rim in "come here" motion and pull - be sure to keep FLEX horizontal. À la, Brittney Spears "Toxic."
Another great way to hook the rim for removal is by hooking over the disc as shown below. With this method, you'll want to push your finger up over the rim by creating space between the rim and your pubic bone. Imagine you're reaching for a light switch you need to flip down. Don't be afraid to get in there either (gently of course)!
4. Pull + empty
You've hooked the disc - now slooooowly pull until it's at the entrance of your vagina. Remove the rest of the way, empty the contents into the toilet and you're all done! Place FLEX in the wrapper if you still got it and dispose in the trash bin.
5. Go forth and kick butt!
You can insert a new disc after you've removed and discarded a used disc. Just be sure to wash your hands in-between. Some users will remove with one hand and insert with another when they're in a hurry (or in a public restroom).
